Tiffany & Co. alleged that Costco engaged in trademark infringement by using its name to describe generic diamond solitaire rings, while Costco claimed that the term “Tiffany setting”  has become a widely-used generic description for such rings and as such was not infringing on Tiffany’s trademark.

Reuters reports lawyers for the two companies issued statements on Monday that the suit was settled amicably, though terms were not disclosed.
