Wendy Davis was critically injured on Dec. 4 when an outdoor gas leak caused an explosion inside Darklyn Inc., located in the 100 block of South Eustis Street. The report stated that Davis died days later, with her death confirmed by longtime friend Mia Tompkins.
Tompkins, who had known Davis for more than 12 years, confirmed the cause of death, the report noted. She is the pastor's wife at One Fire Church, located one block from the business.
Surveillance video from a nearby business captured the explosion. According to the report, the blast caused major damage to the building, prompted evacuations of surrounding properties, and led to multiple road closures.
A small memorial was set up outside the store. The report stated that local business owners, customers, and the flight nurse who transported Davis to the hospital stopped by to pay their respects.
Fire Chief Michael Swanson said Florida's State Fire Marshal continues to investigate how gas from the outdoor leak entered the building and what ignited the explosion, as per the report.
