Yorkshire, England—A British makeup artist hoping to net £600 (about $837) by pawning three watches to help her finances during the pandemic got a lot more than she bargained for.

Appearing on ITV's three-part show Million Pound Pawn, the woman explained that she had been given a gold Rolex watch and a gold pocket watch from her godfather before he died, but knew nothing about fine jewelry or watches. All her jewelry was costume, from inexpensive stores like Primark and River Island, she told pawnbroker Dan Hatfield, owner of Sheffield’s London Road Jewellers & Pawnbrokers.

She also had spent £25 (about $35) on a silver-colored "Rolex Daytona" from being sold from the trunk of a car.

Both Rolexes were fake—but the gold one was, in fact, made of real gold. Hatfield explained to the customer, named Andrea, that the value of the gold in it was £2700 (about $3768) but he’d have to break it apart in order to pay her cash for the gold. Although briefly hesitant to destroy the gift from her beloved uncle and godfather, Andrea ultimately relented, acknowledging that he would have wanted her to have the financial security instead.

The news got even better for her after that. Hatfield told Andrea that the pocket watch was “a good one,” and agreed to buy that as well, ultimately paying £5500 (about $7676) for both pieces.

“That's definitely going to help. I actually can't believe it. I never get anything,” a Daily Mail article quoted Andrea. “I am stuck for words for once in my life. Amazing. I'm so happy. I'm definitely sad to see them go because they've been with me a long time but I know he'll be looking down and smiling on me today.”
