Prosecutor Laure Beccuau said the suspect has six previous convictions. He faces preliminary charges of robbery as part of an organised gang, which carries a maximum 15-year sentence, and criminal conspiracy, which can carry up to 10 years. The report stated that investigators have not detailed his specific role in the heist.
The heist is believed to have involved four people, with two entering the Apollo Gallery and two waiting outside before fleeing on motorbikes. Per the report, the operation lasted under eight minutes. The group used a freight lift to access a window and grinders to cut into the jewelry cases.
The stolen items remain missing. They include a diamond-and-emerald necklace given by Napoleon to Empress Marie-Louise, jewels linked to 19th-century queens Marie-Amélie and Hortense, and Empress Eugénie's pearl-and-diamond tiara. The report highlighted that the imperial crown of Napoleon III's wife, containing more than 1,300 diamonds, was later found outside the museum.
The case has prompted renewed scrutiny of security at the Louvre.
