Bala Cynwyd, PA--The 1916 Company has expanded into the pre-owned luxury handbag category, adding to its established pre-owned watch and jewelry operations. According to a report by Fashion Network, the Philadelphia-based firm sees the move as a direct extension of decades of resale activity across its online platforms and its 20 boutiques and showrooms.

CEO John Shmerler said the company's goal is to offer a unified destination across its banners, which include WatchBox, Govberg Jewelers, Radcliffe Jewelers, and Hyde Park Jewelers. As per the report, he said the addition of handbags applies the same standards used in its watch and jewelry divisions to a new product area.

The handbag category will be led by Lauren Lynch Schuster, a luxury resale specialist and co-founder of Luxury In Reach, which The 1916 Company acquired earlier this year. The report noted that Schuster views handbags as a central part of the luxury market and aims to provide structured guidance and sourcing services for clients.

Pre-owned handbag collections are now available online and in select showrooms. The report stated that a dedicated presentation is open in Baltimore, with additional displays in Ardmore, Philadelphia, and New York.
