FROM THE OSCARS: REAL RED CARPET JEWELRY YOU CAN ACTUALLY STOCK AND SELLFebruary 28, 2012 (0 comments)
|Merrick, NY—In between the big-name jewelry houses like Harry Winston and celebrity jewelers like Lorraine Schwartz and Neil Lane--not to mention guessing what celebrities might have been paid to wear--the list of Oscar-night jewelry on parade last Sunday night also included pieces from familiar jewelry companies that exhibit at the Centurion Show and other shows. Imagine your customers' surprise at being shown the exact same pair of earrings or bracelet they saw on the red carpet!
Of course there were the blinding bits like Natalie Portman’s Harry Winston diamond V necklace (left) and Penelope Cruz’s necklace and earring suite by Chopard. It wouldn’t be the Oscars without them, and we’re happy to report that contrary to previous awards shows, there were quite a few bejeweled necks at the Oscars. Even Uggie, the canine star of Best Picture winner The Artist, sparkled in a special black tie with his name in an 18k gold bone-shaped tag.
No flea collar here: Uggie is a star who knows how to dress for the occasion!
Trend-wise, the necklaces we saw were classic, and like previous recent red carpet events, earrings tended to be either simple-but-big-as-a-Whopper studs, or statement-making chandeliers and dangles. Wrists played a central role this year, with lots of standout cuffs and bangles for women, and for men (especially “Artist-ic” men), luxury watches from the likes of Chopard (Michel Hazanavicius) and Jaeger Le-Coultre (Jean Dujardin).
Ready to build an Oscar-worthy suite of pieces in your store? Here’s a look at some of the pieces from names you know:
Actress Judy Greer wore Mimi So for Forevermark; a bangle with three ideal square diamonds and two thin eternity bangles set in 18k white gold, stick Earrings with four ideal diamonds and diamond pave set in 18k white gold.

Separately, winning designs from the Rio Tinto Diamonds Global Design Competition were featured at the StyleLab jewelry suite in Beverly Hills prior to the Oscars. The suite was attended by celebrities such as past Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden, Allison Janney of The Help, Tabatha Coffey of BRAVO’s Tabatha’s Takeover, and CSI actress Barbara Eve Harris.
After receiving a record number of entries, Rio Tinto assembled an elite panel of judges, who chose nine winning designers from the United States, Canada, Australia, India, China, and Hong Kong to have their pieces made exclusively for the 2012 Oscars. The finished jewelry represented the categories of Champagne Diamonds, Rio Tinto’s trademarked Silvermist Diamonds, Canadian Diamonds, and Sustainable Jewelry. The winning designs included in the StyleLab Oscars suite included:
- “Desert Rose” bracelet designed by Stacey Lindsell and manufactured by Diarough, Uni-Design
- “The World of Champagne” earrings designed by Nejal Mehta and manufactured by A’Star Jewelry
- “Rain Dance” earrings designed by Michelle Buxani and manufactured by Diarough HK

After browsing the jewels in the suite, Allison Janney chose the “Nature’s Beauty” cuff, Tabatha Coffey, who hosted the TV Guide Channel’s Oscar coverage, chose “The Sands of Time” cuff, and Barbara Eve Harris wore “The World of Champagne” earrings as she accompanied Louis Gossett Jr. down the red carpet.
Allison Janney of The Help chose this Rio Tinto competition-winning Nature's Beauty cuff bracelet.
Tabatha Coffey also chose a statement-making Rio Tinto Sands of Time cuff.
Finally, palladium jewelry continues to make inroads, as worn by Giuliana Rancic, Kelly Osbourne (one of the models in the current Palladium Alliance ad campaign), Maria Menounos, and Irina Shayk, choosing pieces from Jacob & Co. and Dena Kemp. George Kotsiopoulos also chose palladium accessories.
