Founded by Jerry “Gerald” Amerosi Sr. in 1982, the business began as Goldmine in Brooklyn's Caesar’s Bay Bazaar.
According to an article by Staten Island Chamber of Commerce, Amerosi entered the jewelry industry after learning to buy and sell gold from his best friend's boss and initially worked with Telco department stores before opening his own shop. The store gained popularity, prompting a move to a larger location on 18th Avenue in 1991, where it was renamed Gerald Peters Goldmine after his sons.
Recognizing that many of his Brooklyn clients were relocating to Staten Island, Amerosi opened a second store in the Staten Island Mall in 1996. Gerald and Peter, who grew up working part-time in the family business, joined full-time after earning degrees in Business Administration and Entrepreneurship. They played key roles in expanding the company, including closing the Brooklyn location in 2008, opening a Pandora store, rebranding to Gerald Peters in 2015, and relocating within the mall.
Under the family's leadership, Gerald Peters introduced high-end brands such as Rolex, exclusively sold on Staten Island at their store. The jeweler now offers the largest selection of bridal jewelry on the island and serves a diverse clientele, including celebrities and professional athletes.
The article stated that the upcoming move to 1461 Richmond Road will provide a two-story space featuring private viewing rooms, a full repair center with an onsite jeweler, a Rolex service center, a bar, a coffee bar, and a rooftop lounge. The new location aims to enhance the customer experience with additional amenities.
Beyond business, Jerry Amerosi is known for his community involvement, contributing time and resources to various local organizations. His approach has fostered a family-like atmosphere among employees, some of whom have been with the company for over four decades.
