GIA Alumni Collective to Hold Montana Sapphires Seminar on Feb 3 January 18, 2024 (0 comments)

Tucson, AZ--The GIA Alumni Collective is set to conduct a seminar, "Montana Sapphires: History, Gemology, and Identification," on February 3, 2024, at the Alfie Norville Gem & Mineral Museum. The event, part of the Tucson Gem Show, aims to provide detailed insights into the origin, characteristics, and identification of Montana sapphires.

Per an announcement, Dr. Aaron Palke, Senior Manager of Colored Stone Research at GIA, will lead the seminar. Attendees will examine sapphire samples, learn to identify characteristic inclusions and understand the effects of heat treatment on these gemstones. The session will also compare Montana sapphires with those from regions like Tanzania to highlight distinguishing features.

The seminar runs from 9 AM to 12 PM MST and targets a diverse audience, including appraisers, buyers, gemologists, and enthusiasts. Registration is $450 USD, with a 10% discount for GIA Alumni.
