Going Beyond ‘Above And Beyond’: Tales Of The Best Service Ever July 31, 2015 (0 comments)
Merrick, NY—Fine Italian linens, a plush mattress, and a top wine list are important, but the true hallmark of luxury is service and no top luxury hotel worth its salt would be without an outstanding concierge. This is the person who knows seemingly everything—and more importantly, everyone—who can help give guests the experience they’re craving, even if that experience is quite far out of the ordinary.
Simon Cowie, an internationally renowned stylist and event planner, delivered a seminar devoted to the subject of luxury and outstanding service at Centurion Scottsdale in 2014. True luxury, he said, is curated, edited, and above all, personalized. He recounted how, upon staying at the Four Seasons Hotel in Hong Kong, the bell attendants had looked him up online so that they could greet him by name when he arrived, and how his room service attendant noticed what he didn’t eat on his breakfast tray, and all subsequent meals contained only his favorite foods.
Some of the world’s top concierges have had bizarre requests indeed—ranging from finding customers a Botox injection, a rare bottle of perfume, or a hydrocarbon geologist (!) on a moment’s notice. This CNN Money article details how they went to unbelievable lengths to fill them, earning the customer’s lifelong gratitude and a reputational boost for the hotel. Read the 12 of the top luxury hotel concierges’ strangest requests here.
