New York, NY—Jennifer Gandia, co-owner of Greenwich Jewelers in lower Manhattan, had some cleanup to do after Hurricane Sandy. Her store's area was hard hit by the storm, but Greenwich Jewelers suffered no water damage and Gandia knew many other people were affected far worse. She immediately jumped into action to help others in New York and New Jersey who were devastated by the hurricane. She and her sister, Christina, co-owner of the store, started by delivering food to devastated neighborhoods in Brooklyn. Next, she grabbed a shovel and went to Staten Island to help residents there clear out mud and debris.

But one shovel can only do so much, so Gandia devised an online jewelry auction to benefit the victims of the storm. She next reached out and mobilized the jewelry industry, getting more than 90 designer jewelry brands to donate for the online auction,  which is going on live now through December 6, and from which 100% of proceeds will go to the Waves for Water charity. 

Waves for Water, while normally focused on providing clean water around the world, has established a special fund and effort to assist the coastal communities of New York and New Jersey that were devastated by the hurricane. Read about W4W’s Sandy Relief Initiative here.

The online auction began Tuesday, Nov. 27, and ends Thursday, Dec. 6, at 8:00 p.m. EST.  The URL for the auction is http://www.biddingOwl.com/Auction/home.cfm?auctionID=112.

Greenwich Jewelers, will host a special auction closing party at its store, 64 Trinity Place, New York City. There, the jewelry can be viewed and bid on in person. The party will be held from 5:00 p.m. until the auction’s closing at 8:00. Greenwich Jewelers’ phone is (212) 964-7592.
