Raleigh, NC—These are the some unique things I notice about successful people, whether they are in business, band, sports, actors, philanthropists, writers, et cetera:

1. They fully commit themselves to something. They become a master at that craft. They might be talented in many areas, but what made them successful was a passion and love for mastering at least one craft before mastering another.

2. They aren't afraid of failure. They are willing to put themselves out there. They would rather try and fail than not try at all. The cost of knowing they didn't try, or that they didn't give it a shot, is greater than trying and failing or embarrassing themselves.  This, to me, is a very important trait in all highly successful people.

3. They have unique habits and routines for practicing and improving. They either get up early or stay up late working on being better and improving, networking, et cetera; whatever it is that will help them get ahead of the pack. They are willing to do what most people are not willing to do: work harder, practice more, get up earlier, stay up later or, in some cases, both.

They make sacrifices to get better and to be better.

4. They think they "can." Even when it's really tough, they challenge themselves and believe. It fuels them. They embrace resistance and push through, whether it's training, learning, et cetera.

5. They spend a lot of time out of their comfort zone. They actually work hard at becoming "comfortable with being uncomfortable." Because they uniquely know and embrace the fact that if you’re comfortable, you’re not really growing or challenging yourself.

6. They have a mentality that they want to be the best they can be. Often that’s the center of their thought processes that guide them every day, day by day.
