Denver, CO--A year ago, jewelry industry veteran, Heather Ingraham, visited Sierra Leone with the Rapaport Group Trade Mission. During the tour several local business leaders discussed the need to provide avenues to help the people of Sierra Leone help themselves. Deeply touched by the experience, she started Prosperity Diamonds to fund university tuition for young people in the country.

She noted that from 1991 until 2002, diamonds helped fund conflict and human atrocities during Sierra’s Civil War.

“I feel strongly that the jewelry industry is indebted to the people of Sierra Leone, and we share a responsibility to help the next generation rise above their circumstances of living in the second poorest country in the world,” Ingraham said. “Today, Sierra Leone is a peaceful country with citizens who want the opportunity to make a better life for themselves.”

Prosperity Diamonds is a humanitarian-driven initiative with a vision to demonstrate how diamonds can be a powerful force for positive change in communities, Ingraham said. “Our mission is to educate the diamond industry about the true origin stories of diamonds, shining a light on the people and places that bring them to life.”

She said that a tax-exempt donation of $300 provides one year of university tuition to a young person in Sierra Leone. “This minimal donation can change a life, inspire others and ensure a future of prosperity,” she said.

Prosperity Diamonds is now accepting donations on its website.
