In Memoriam: Georgia Jeweler Bill Rosenfeld February 02, 2021 (0 comments)
Tucker, GA—Jeweler William Corey “Bill” Rosenfeld, 77, the longtime owner of Rosenfeld Jewelry Ltd., died suddenly January 23.
Born February 26, 1943 in Norfolk, VA, Rosenfeld was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during the Cuban missile crisis. Following his military service, he performed as a professional guitarist for many years and began a lifelong commitment to public service as a volunteer firefighter.
He was instrumental in expanding emergency services in McDowell County, NC, later serving as the Director of McDowell County EMS before relocating to DeKalb County, GA, in the early 1980s.
It was there that he started a small jewelry repair shop out of his home and opened his first storefront, later moving the business to its current location in Tucker, GA.
In addition to his role as a jeweler, Rosenfeld was a city councilman in Tucker, and a pillar of the community, according to a tribute in the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
From the AJC:
“Bill will be remembered for much more than his role as a City Councilman,” the city’s statement said. “By the time he ran for office in 2016, his legacy as a pillar of the Tucker community was well-ingrained — a leader in the DeKalb County Fire Department, a champion for the business community, a volunteer giving of his time and treasure and a man of great faith.”
Rosenfeld was passionate about the development and progress in the city of Tucker and took a special interest in its parks. He also was a strong advocate for small businesses in the community, served on multiple community and charity boards, was an active Rotarian, and was elected to the first Tucker City Council after the city incorporated in 2016. He won reelection in 2019 with 77% of the vote.
Rosenfeld is survived by his wife, Carmen, their two children, and six grandchildren. A statement from his family was posted on his Facebook page Saturday.
