In Memoriam: Hana Mousaieff Eliav January 22, 2014 (0 comments)
Jerusalem, Israel—Hana (Hannah) Moussaieff Eliav, mother of Orna Levy of Yvel, died last week at age 92.
The oldest daughter of the famous Moussaieff family of jewelers, Eliav was one of the founders of the jewelry industry in Israel, and ran her famous jewelry store at the King David hotel in Jerusalem for close to 50 years. But even more importantly, she fought for the independence of Israel under the “Lechi” underground, and watched the country blossoming from its founding in 1948.
Isaac Levy, founder and principal of Yvel, says, “Orna’s and my inspiration in the jewelry designing came from being next to this amazing talented jewelry designer for more than two decades.
I personally studied the jewelry world by sitting for two long years in her store, under her supervision. No jewelry school or institute could have given me what I got from that amazing, talented, and kind woman. She was a great business woman and one of the finest jewelers I’ve ever met. She was my mentor.
Yvel will keep Hana’s legacy and memory to all jewelry lovers.”
Eliav had three children, numerous grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
