Fancy Color Diamond Book to Debut at JCK Las Vegas
New York, NY—Author and fancy color diamond expert Eden Rachminov is slated to launch Fancy Colored Diamonds, The Pricing Architecture, a book created especially for the benefit of retailers who sell fancy color diamonds. His second publication, this in-depth examination of fancy color diamonds and their inherent commercial assets and marketability, will be introduced at the JCK Show in booth B57041.
Though its title suggests a discussion of pricing, Fancy Colored Diamonds, The Pricing Architecture, is not about prices. Rather, the book is a compendium that provides a framework by which stones can be evaluated for conceptual pricing. While the book does not discuss actual prices, it presents an in-depth methodology that can be applied by the entire supply chain. It is designed to be both a working tool and an easy-to-read coffee table book with striking images and colorful drawings.
Employing ‘The Layer System,” Rachminov presents each commercial attribute of a fancy color diamond in elaborate detail, dedicating a full chapter to each ‘layer.’ The book is accompanied by an appendix that includes over 10,000 coefficients and premium tables to provide retailers with intelligent responses and explanations regarding vast price differences between two fancy color diamonds with similar GIA reports.

Rachminov believes that these attributes—some of which are absent and some that he feels are overemphasized from current GIA reports—are of particular importance. Most retailers and their customers use the Four Cs to describe a fancy color diamond, unaware of the professional jargon that extends far beyond those fundamental concepts, he says. This book discusses the paramount characteristics one should look for in a fancy color diamond, as well as other important aspects that should be ignored.
“My goal in penning the second book is to arm the entire industry, from miners and wholesalers to retailers and end consumers, with knowledge of the remarkable, yet widely unknown, attributes of fancy colored diamonds,” says Rachminov. “My belief is that this will benefit the industry by bringing together, improving relationships, and growing this sector of the market in a positive way. Put even more simply, I want to better guide the next generation of sellers in this highly unique and niche market.”
The founder of the Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF), Rachminov’s goals in writing Fancy Colored Diamonds, The Pricing Architecture are in line with the organization: to provide educational tools for the color diamond industry and advocate for transparency and fair trade practices.
Rachminov will be on-site at JCK Las Vegas. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please contact Netta El Harel, netta@fancycolor.com. Fancy Colored Diamonds, The Pricing Architecture is available for purchase at www.fancycolorbooks.com and at the JCK Show. All proceeds from sales of the book will be donated to the Fancy Color Research Foundation, and will be divided between investing in research and education on fancy color diamonds and donations to Make-a-Wish foundation.
First Online Concept Sketching Course Offered For Jewelry Designers And Retailers
Oceanside, CA—Jewelry creators have always relied on sketches for the essential first step in the creative process. Whether designing a new line, or creating custom jewelry for a consumer, the ability to create a design in mere minutes gives them an advantage that's hard to overstate. Now designers and retailers alike can take a new online course to learn how to draw attractive jewelry sketches rapidly.
Jewelry Design & Sketching, presented by Les Ateliers, is the first online concept sketching course that focuses exclusively on jewelry design. Watch a video trailer for the course here.
“Today, there's more emphasis than ever to provide a quick and representative visual,” says Robert Ackermann, president and co-founder of Les Ateliers. Ackermann is an award-winning jewelry designer himself, as well as a seasoned educator. Having been asked many times about where to learn jewelry sketching, he decided to provide the service himself.
Jewelry Design & Sketching consists of 11 carefully structured video lectures with a total runtime of four hours. The objective is to learn the fundamentals of freehand drawing and develop the sure-handedness of a professional. Students will find an abundance of fun, real-world practice suggestions, and projects. The course starts with drawing plain lines and ends with complex outlines, addressing how to sketch gemstones and how to draw tricky pavé layouts as well. Drawing equipment is as low-tech as it gets: a pencil and paper.
Alan Revere, founder and director of the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts in San Francisco, said, “This course is just terrific. First class! A monumental endeavor with a lot of work and resources that all show.”
“Brilliant!” adds Ris Nguyen, jewelry designer at Mark Broumand in Los Angeles, CA. ”I really am enjoying the lessons and am quite excited for subsequent ones. They are well thought out and easy to follow.” Visit http://www.learnjewelrydesign.org/ for further details and free previews, or contact Robert Ackermann, robert@learnjewelrydesign.org, (760) 301-6787.
TRENDVISION Jewelry + Forecasting To Present Trend Overview In Las Vegas
Las Vegas, NV—TRENDVISION Jewelry + Forecasting, FIera di Vicenza’s independent think tank and global trend forecasting service, will present an overview of the four current megatrends in the international jewelry and luxury goods industries: Sophisticore, I-History, Geo-Luxury, and Digital Hypnosis. These will be illustrated in virtual display cases, along with their corresponding consumer profiles.
Sophisticore appeals to the consumer known as “The New Thinker,” which is a contemporary minimalist who loves simplicity, which when looked at more carefully is revealed to be highly sophisticated. The jewelry preferred by the New Thinker is very practical.
I-History is is preferred by consumers complying with the “The Digger” (or “The Retronaut”) profile, who look to the past to construct their identities, and who require knowledge and familiarity in order to to evolve. The tastes of these consumers are tinged with history, but with a new character that comes from the present. Magic, esotericism, the search for craftsmanship and dark symbols are the central themes.
The Geo-Luxury megatrend is favoured by the the consumer known as “The Geonaut,” whose burning desire is to discover the world, leaving narrow confines behind in order to explore distant places. It displays a new exoticism, flaunting of knowledge and culture. The Geonaut loves to source jewelry from all over – street markets and the Internet included. However, each piece must have a backstory, whether it was from a bazaar or a prestigious jewelry house in Jaipur.
Lastly, the Digital Hypnosis megatrend is the domain of “The Illusionist”, who bases his or her choice with a high degree of attention to technology. He or she is an intelligent consumer, who seeks tech-jewelry to express his or her personality and ultramodern, futuristic style. In the TRENDVISION Jewelry+Forecasting also will offer its full collection of publications produced by the think tank’s research team. They include the latest set of “Consumer Profiles,” released in January, which provide a complete analysis of the main consumer types and their characteristics, identifying their respective geographic areas and assigning them specific products and style indications.
