GIA’s Jewelry Career Fair and Open House Set For Oct. 5

Carlsbad, CA—“The Business of Bling” is the theme of GIA’s Annual Career Fair and Open House, set for October 5. More than 25 gem and jewelry companies are expected to be looking to hire hundreds of professionals at every career stage, and in various sectors of the industry, from jewelry design and appraisal to retail sales and diamond grading. This free event marks the only time each year that GIA’s 30-acre Carlsbad campus headquarters is completely open to the public.

GIA’s successful New York City Career Fair event in July drew more than 800 attendees. The Carlsbad event, in addition to hiring opportunities and one-on-one career coaching, will feature panels with industry leaders and achievers, including celebrity stylist George Blodwell, jewelry designer Erica Courtney, and outgoing president and CEO of Jewelers of America, Matt Runci. Some panel presentations include:

GIA president and CEO Donna Baker addressing attendees at last year's Career Fair.  She's slated to do the same in 2012.

Career Fair will take place from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at GIA’s Carlsbad campus, 5345 Armada Drive, Carlsbad, CA. Industry recruiters will be available from 10:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., and will include, among others, Leo Hamel Fine Jewelers, Montblanc, Tiffany & Co., and Zale Corporation. Guests also are welcome to view current GIA exhibits, including GIA Celebrates Birthstones, and the “GIA Egg-stravaganza.”

Anyone interested in attending is urged to RSVP prior to the event. For more details, visit www.careerfair.gia.edu or email careerfair@gia.edu.

Hong Kong Exhibitors Sign Five-Year Contract To Exhibit in Basel

Basel, Switzerland—The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and MCH Swiss Exhibition (Basel) Ltd. have signed contracts for another five-year presence of 200 Hong Kong exhibitors at the Baselworld Fair. Fred Lam, executive director of HKTDC, and René Kamm, CEO of MCH Group, signed the contracts for the period from 2013 to 2017, with an option for another five years up to 2022.

Says Kamm, "Since 1986, our guests from Hong Kong have been reliable partners and a valuable element of this show. I am very happy that we have succeeded in securing this relationship over the long term."

Says Lam, "We will continue to be present in Basel with the biggest pavilion in future too. Baselworld provides the best and most important opportunity outside of Hong Kong for our manufacturers to get in touch with specialist dealers from all over the world."

As of the 2013 fair (April 25-May 2), the Hong Kong pavilion will be located in Hall 4 directly on Exhibition Square, with the completion of the new exhibition complex in Basel. The new building, designed for the MCH Group by architects Herzog & de Meuron, will ensure a greater level of convenience for visitors to the show.

Luxury Jewelry & Cultural Center to Open in Shenzhen

New York, NY— The Gems Cube Jewelry & Jade Creative Cultural Park is a new luxury jewelry and cultural complex due to open in Shenzhen, China, in May 2013.
