Jane Seymour, Jewelers For Children To be Honored By Diamond Empowerment Fund

New York, NY—The Diamond Empowerment Fund has announced it will honor actress, philanthropist and jewelry designer Jane Seymour, and Jewelers for Children including its highly respected executive director David Rocha, at its fourth annual GOOD Awards. The event will be held Thursday, January 8, 2015, at the Empire Penthouse Lounge in New York City.

Seymour, JFC, and Rocha are being honored for their global leadership and making a positive difference in the lives of countless youth and communities around the world.

DEF established the GOOD Awards in 2012 to recognize individuals, organizations, and corporations in the diamond and jewelry industry for outstanding leadership in the areas of global good corporate citizenship, sustainability and promoting opportunity in diamond communities.

Jane Seymour is an Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning actress for her role as Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, among other performances. She is known in the jewelry world for her successful ‘Open Hearts’ Collection of jewelry. Ms. Seymour is also the co-founder of the ‘Open Hearts Foundation’, whose mission is to positively impact lives in the area of health, education, arts and sports. “It is an honor that the Diamond Empowerment Fund has chosen to recognize the work that I’ve done with my Open Hearts Foundation where we focus on organizations and individuals who turn adversity into an opportunity to serve others,” says Seymour.

David Rocha has been the driving force behind Jewelers for Children (JFC), the industry-supported organization whose mission is to help children in need. Since its founding in 1999, JFC has raised and donated more than 45 million dollars to various children’s organizations including Make-A-Wish, CASA, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, as well as relief efforts following Hurricane Katrina, the Asian tsunami, and the earthquake in Japan.

Rocha, who has led the organization for the past 10 years says, “The impact the jewelry industry has made on the lives of countless children around the world inspires me every day.”

For a limited time, D.E.F will be offering an early pricing special on two tickets. Visit www.goodawards.org for more information on tickets, journal ads and sponsorship packages.

Pearl Sustainability Forum Available To View Online

Hong Kong—All the videos and presentations of the Sustainable Pearls Forum that took place June 20th in Hong Kong are now available online.

The event included pearl industry leaders such as Paspaley, Robert Wan, Jewelmer, Tiffany & Co. and Mikimoto, highlighting the potential of pearls as pioneers of sustainability in the jewelry industry, why pearls are well-positioned to be the pioneers of sustainability, and demonstrating a clear business case for sustainable cultured pearls.

The Forum was made up of three thematic sessions: Protection of the Biosphere, Management Commitment to Sustainability, and Promoting Sustainability throughout the Supply Chain.

Responsible pearl farming is unique because it is about not just preserving vital ecosystems, but also producing high quality pearls. This economic and environmental synergy enables producers to market their pearls in unique and valuable ways. Results of a U.S. jewelry consumer market survey carried out by Sustainable Pearls and MVI Research were presented, clearly showing a business case for sustainable pearls.

First Texas-Israel Diamond Show Sparks Great Interest

Ramat Gan, Israel—The first Texas-Israel Diamond Show will take place Sept. 29-30 month in San Antonio, in conjunction with the Texas Jewelers Association (TJA) convention. The show, sponsored by TJA and the Israel Diamond Institute (IDI), is an unprecedented opportunity for Israeli diamond exporters and Texas jewelers to meet and conduct business face to face. This is the first time that jewelers in Texas and surrounding states are being offered diamonds directly from the source.

The event will showcase 28 Israeli diamond companies offering diamonds in every size, shape, color, and price point, in loose diamonds as well as luxury diamond jewelry. The timing will allow local jewelers to stock up on diamonds  before the holiday season.

The event will offer opportunities for networking among vendors and buyers. The IDI-sponsored gala dinner on Sunday evening September 28, a highlight of the TJA Convention, will be followed by a festive Texas-Israel Barbecue Dinner especially for diamond show participants on September 29, featuring the best of Texan and Israeli cuisine.

Nissim Palomo, IDI chief marketing officer, says, “The United States is our largest market and we’re happy to see that diamond jewelry sales are on the rise. We’ve chosen to hold the first Israel Diamond Show here because we believe in the vitality of the Texan market. Our vendors are looking forward to making sales, but more importantly to establishing relationships with local jewelers,” he said.

IDI is offering special rates on accommodations to Diamond Show buyers. The show will be open to jewelers and other authorized members of the trade. Registration and valid trade credentials are necessary for admittance. To register, click here or email Ann@TexasJewelers.org
