In Memoriam: Tino Hammid, Renowned Gem And Jewelry Photographer

Los Angeles, CA—Tino Hammid, 63, one of the jewelry industry’s leading photographers whose work has graced publications ranging from Gems & Gemology  to Christie’s auction catalogs and many trade publications, succumbed to colon cancer on July 11.

Hammid (left) began his career at GIA, where he worked as a staff photographer from 1980 to 1982. He then embarked on a 25-year association with Modern Jeweler magazine, where his photography was central to the monthly Gem Profile column written by journalist David Federman. Almost every industry trade publication has featured his work at one time or another, whether directly or through GIA, Christie’s, or other clients.

As news of his death spread through the industry, Hammid’s Facebook page filled with tributes, and colleagues and clients praised his humility and integrity as well as his work in a tribute that appeared online in JCK on Monday.

Hammid is survived by his wife, Petra, and three children: Evelyn, 23, and twins Antonia and Tobias, six.

Two images that exemplify Tino Hammid's reputation as one of the world's leading gem and jewelry photographers.
