International Jewel Thief Arrested After High-Profile Thefts in NYC May 10, 2024 (0 comments)
New York, NY--Authorities have arrested a 49-year-old man on charges of stealing nearly $300,000 worth of jewelry from Tiffany and Cartier stores in Midtown Manhattan.

According to a report published in ABC, Yaorong Wan, who has also drawn international attention from Interpol, was apprehended after surveillance footage showed him distracting a salesperson and stealing a $17,000 Chopard watch from London Jewelers in Long Island.
The report stated that Wan's thefts included replacing a $255,000 diamond ring with a cubic zirconia at Tiffany's Rockefeller Center location on March 4 and stealing a $25,000 diamond ring from Cartier at the Hudson Yards on March 12.
He was arrested in Flushing, Queens, and has appeared in Lower Manhattan and Nassau courts. Wan is ineligible for bail due to a pending fugitive warrant related to another theft in New Jersey.
The report added that Wan, who entered the U.S. illegally on December 29, 2023, is wanted in South Korea for a $332,000 jewelry theft in September 2018. He is also suspected of similar crimes in Beverly Hills and Miami.
Wang remains in custody as investigations continue into his alleged international theft ring.
