Jeweler Creates Drive-In Movie Theater For Town May 27, 2020 (2 comments)
Ridgefield, CT—Billy Craig, left, owner of Craig’s Fine Jewelry, is bringing back the drive-in movie to help his fellow townspeople have some fun during this time of social distancing.
“We are thrilled to be able to work with so many in Ridgefield to bring drive-in movies to our community!! Community is NOT canceled! It’s stronger than ever and we’re so proud to be part of it!” the jeweler wrote on his Facebook page.
Craig worked with The Ridgefield Playhouse to find an affordable screen large enough to show the movies outdoors at Ridgefield High School. The theater also procured the films, one each for every Saturday night in June. A local A-V company is providing both the projector and an audio setup to broadcast on an FM station that attendees can hear through their car radio. Cars will be socially distanced by parking in every other spot, says this article in HamletHub.com.
The movies are classic family favorites: Legally Blonde, which the local high school had been planning to perform as a play; plus Dirty Dancing, Grease (with a sing-along) and, finally, Field of Dreams.
Craig told the paper he hopes that use of the screen will go beyond just the drive-in movie concept. He’s making it available to other arts organizations who can use it in other ways, such as drive-in concerts or shows.
