Krystle Craycraft, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Digital at Jewelers Mutual, highlighted the changing perceptions towards jewelry. "Jewelry is so much more than metal and stone; it's a symbol of independence and self-expression," Craycraft said in a report.

"As we continue our work to elevate the love of jewelry, these findings reinforce the significance of empowering individuals to treat themselves to beautiful and meaningful jewelry, regardless of the occasion," Craycraft added.

The survey revealed several key findings:

Gender Preferences: There's a difference in the types of jewelry self-purchased by different genders. Women tend to buy necklaces and earrings, whereas men prefer watches.

Purchase Frequency: About half of the survey respondents indicated buying jewelry for themselves only once a year.

Legacy Aspects: A striking 96% of self-purchasers are planning or considering passing down their fine jewelry, highlighting the sentimental value and legacy of such purchases.

Maintenance Awareness: The study also highlighted a gap in awareness regarding the need for professional jewelry inspections. Nearly 39% of respondents admitted never having their fine jewelry professionally inspected.
