Hartford, CT--After nearly five decades, Armstrong Rockwell Jewelers is closing its doors post-Christmas. Established in 1976, the store on Trumbull Street has been a destination for high-end Swiss watches and fine jewelry, featuring brands like Omega, Carl F. Bucherer and IWC.

In a report published in Hartford Courant, Al Armstrong, the owner, reflects on the store's evolution from humble beginnings to a high-end destination. Initially, Armstrong's venture began on Asylum Avenue amid a bustling retail scene. Over the years, he witnessed a dramatic shift in the city's dynamics and retail environment, with many stores relocating.

The report noted that in the 1990s, Armstrong shifted focus to cater to an affluent clientele, attracting international attention for its luxury watches and jewelry collection. Per the report, the store gained a reputation for reliability and quality, with Armstrong emphasizing their commitment to customer satisfaction and authenticity.

Among its notable sales was the Blancpain 1735, a minute-repeater wristwatch valued at $1 million.

At 75, Armstrong envisions a life beyond the store, hoping to spend more time with family and explore new endeavors. Despite closing the physical store, he plans to maintain an online presence and operate a private office in Hartford for selected clientele.

Armstrong Rockwell will offer discounted sales on its luxury items as it prepares to close.
