On June 19, officers intercepted two shipments. One from China, destined for Pennsylvania, contained 318 bracelets with counterfeit Cartier trademarks. Another from Hong Kong, headed to Tampa, Florida, held 490 necklaces, 205 pairs of earrings, and 80 rings marked with fake Van Cleef and Arpels logos, CBP reported.

Three more shipments arrived on June 20, all from China. Officers seized 800 counterfeit Cartier bracelets bound for addresses in North Carolina and Michigan, the agency said.

CBP’s Centers of Excellence and Expertise determined the 2,193 items bore counterfeit marks. If authentic, the seized jewelry would have had a combined retail value exceeding $25.32 million, as per CBP figures.

“Intellectual property theft threatens America’s economic vitality and funds criminal activities and organized crime,” said LaFonda D. Sutton-Burke, Director of Field Operations for CBP’s Chicago Field Office, in the release.

Jewelry, watches, and handbags or wallets remain among the top goods seized for intellectual property violations. According to CBP, China and Hong Kong accounted for about 90 percent of such seizures in Fiscal Year 2024.
