Jacksonville, FL--Michael Richards, the longtime vice president of Underwood Jewelers, has been named its new president, as of July 1.

He will replace Clayton Bromberg, who has served as chairman and president of Underwood Jewelers since 1988. According to the announcement on the company’s Facebook page, he will remain active as chairman, focusing on strategic direction and diamond procurement.

Richards has been with Underwood’s for more than 30 years rising to become the VP of the retail jeweler. He served as president of the American Gem Society from 2020 till 2022.

“Michael's expertise and passion for the jewelry industry make him the ideal leader to continue our legacy of excellence,” said the statement on the Facebook page.

Underwood Jewelers was founded in 1928, by Herbert F. Underwood as a diamond and watch store in Palatka, Florida.

In 1974, Herbert Underwood sold his business to Bromberg and Company, a family jewelry business founded in Alabama in 1836. Clayton Bromberg was made president of the firm in 1988. In 1989, Herbert Underwood was recognized for his contributions to the jewelry industry with the American Gem Society Shipley Award.
