New York, NY—In the aftermath of Steve Jobs’ passing, many blogs, musings, and other inspirational or motivational tributes have appeared in both the business and consumer press.

Business website Bnet.com chimes in with its own summary of the lessons we all could learn from Jobs’ life and career. These “6 Lessons We Could Learn From Steve Jobs” may sound counterintuitive to some, but the proof is in the pudding—or, rather, the iPod.

The six are: Style Is Content, Patience Beats Speed, Drama Trumps Romance, Nothing Beats A Good Mistake, Technology Isn’t All About Youth, Business Doesn’t Have To Be Bad.

Jewelers, of course, need to sell romance, but Bnet really should have used the word “substance” instead of drama. While Apple’s product launches were in fact dramatic, the products work as promised. Jewelers are selling emotion, not gigabytes, so of course romance matters more—but so does having the product do what it’s supposed to do. And that’s true whether it’s supposed to access the Internet from anywhere, or offer a tangible expression of love.
