According to an ABC News report, the man was inadvertently locked in a 20-by-40-foot secure room at 580 Fifth Avenue, a building filled with various jewelry businesses and vaults, shortly after 8 p.m. on Tuesday, as per the New York Fire Department.

While attending to his safety deposit box, the doors were shut from the outside, activating the automatic lock, scheduled to release only at the next business day's start.

Firefighters arrived and started the grueling rescue, drilling through nearly 30 inches of concrete to reach the trapped customer. However, their progress was halted by metal plating, which would have necessitated using torches to breach.

Per the report, at around 6:15 a.m., the room's timer expired, and the doors opened to the man's relief. He was evaluated by medical personnel, who found him in good physical health following the incident.

The report noted that according to firefighters, the secure room's door is programmed to lock after 7 p.m. and can only be reopened after a preset time interval.

Throughout the ordeal, communication was maintained with the man via phone, and surveillance footage confirmed his presence inside the room.
