Merrick, NY—In our ongoing series titled One Great Thing I Did Last Year (That You Can Do This Year)," The Centurion asks retailers to tell us about one outstanding thing they did in 2014 that turned out really well. This week, Andrea Riso of Talisman Collection in El Dorado Hills, CA, shares her insight.

Andrea Riso and Talisman Collection did a number of good works in their local community last year. Among them: “We raised money in partnership with Victorinox Swiss Army for our country’s fire department to purchase an arson detection dog,” said Riso. The dog, Percy, was a two-year-old female rescue that was adopted from a high-kill shelter and subsequently trained in arson detection to assist fire investigations and rescue. She currently resides with El Dorado Country Deputy Fire Captain Brandon McKay. They're pictured here:

Percy, with help from her humans, tracked an arsonist who started a 100,000 acre wildfire in El Dorado country. “Fires run rampant in CA due to droughts and severely dry conditions,” says Riso. “Percy is a huge asset to El Dorado, Tahoe, Sacramento and Napa/Sonoma Counties.”

And if helping obtain Percy wasn’t enough, “We also did a cause related fundraising effort for six months that paid for two Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) mentor volunteers to be trained,” said Riso. “Consequently, they advocated for two individuals in the state legal system, processing them through foster homes and ultimately adoption.”

But that’s not all!  Riso adds, “We sponsor the local high school’s prom and homecoming with crowns, sashes, gifts and scholarship money.” Now that's a great level of community involvement!
