On March 22, officers from the Palm Beach Police Department (PBPD) responded to LaMuse Jewelers on Worth Avenue after the luxury timepiece failed to arrive at its intended destination.
According to the report, an employee informed police that the store had scheduled a delivery through Uber to transport the watch to J.C. Martin Jewelers, a repair shop located on Forest Hill Boulevard in West Palm Beach.
According to the probable cause affidavit cited by CBS12, the Uber app indicated the Rolex had been delivered. However, when LaMuse contacted the repair shop, they learned the watch had never arrived.
The report noted that the Uber account used for the delivery belonged to a driver who told police he had not completed any trips in months. He informed investigators that his half-brother, Clifford Vassor, had access to and was actively using his Uber account. Vassor was reportedly driving a Mercedes-Benz.
Investigators used license plate recognition systems and surveillance footage to identify Vassor as the suspect. The report highlighted that when officers attempted to stop him on June 11, Vassor provided a fake Social Security number, adding further charges to the case.
Vassor now faces multiple charges, including grand theft of property valued between $20,000 and $100,000, use of a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony, several traffic violations, and providing false identification to law enforcement.
