A news report revealed that the Swiss watchmaker had filed a crypto-focused trademark application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on October 31.
Per the report, the patent application suggested plans to introduce NFTs, NFT media, marketplaces, crypto keys, virtual auctions, and exchange and transfer.
While it's not immediately clear whether digital avatars will sport Rolex in virtual reality, it could be possible that the company will debut a digital collection.
Other brands have already had a headstart in the space. For instance, Adidas recently teased the launch of its NFT collection, which will be a part of its metaverse website.
More companies are taking crypto trademarks seriously, with application numbers reaching a record high this year — 32% more than last year, according to Kondoudis, a USPTO licensed trademark attorney.
