Los Angeles, CA--Celebrating 75 years in business is a very big deal for jewelers who reach that milestone. But few have the mayor of a major city singing their praises.

Such was the case for Sarah Leonard Jewelers, which was proclaimed a "Monumental Business" by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti on the recent occasion of their 75th Anniversary. Sarah Leonard was the first merchant in the history of Los Angeles to earn such a distinction.

Founded by Sunny and Lenny Friedman, the Los Angeles store nearby UCLA has been family owned and operated since 1946. Two generations of family members are shown above at the recent celebration in front of their store with the mayoral proclamation, inclucing (left to right): Linda Abell, Jeffrey Abell, Dean Abell, Gail Friedman, and David Friedman.

The ceremony also included special recognition from Jennifer Poulakidas, UCLA Associate Vice Chancellor for Government and Community Relations, who brought congratulations from UCLA Chancellor and Mrs. Gene Block, the UCLA Athletic Department, and generations of Bruins everywhere. The 15 men of UCLA’s award-winning A cappella ensemble Bruin Harmony serenaded family members and guests. Watch the video below of Bruin Harmony performing Billy Joel’s classic “For the Longest Time.”

Below are more photos from the event:
