Northampton, MA—Add Silverscape Designs to the roster of jewelry stores closing their doors this year as their owners plan to retire.

The western Massachusetts jeweler was founded in Amherst in 1976 by the late Denis Perlman, and moved to Northampton in 1993. After Denis’ death in 2000, his brother Wally Perlman took over the company.

“It was a tough decision, but the time was right. It's a tough place to leave, but it's time for retirement. It's bittersweet to close the store, but I'm grateful to the customers and community support over many years, and that my brother Denis will be remembered well," the 77-year-old Perlman said in a statement to Western Mass News.

A going-out-of-business sale will begin November 24.
