Perham, MN--As Kathy and Tom Gould, co-owners of T.A. Gould Jeweler, plan for retirement, the family business that has served generations may leave a void in the community. The couple, 69 and 71, respectively, are considering selling the business and the building, or just the building.

Tom, whose father Tomas worked in the jewelry industry, initially pursued a teaching degree in industrial arts before starting a family business with his father in 1976.

"My father and I decided to open a family business that can't be downturned if we were successful," he said in an interview with Perham Focus. "And, we have been successful; not rich, but successful – never gone bankrupt, always paid our bills and still in business."

The interview added that after several relocations, T.A. Gould Jeweler arrived at Perham's Main Street around 2008.

The store has built a reputation for quality work and exceptional customer service for over 40 years. A steady clientele from the Red River Valley to the Twin Cities has relied on the Goulds for their jewelry needs. Tom credits their success to an honest reputation, emphasizing in the interview, "If you don't know jewelry, know your jeweler."

The couple's decision to sell the family business brings them closer to retirement and reflects on a legacy of dedication and hard work.
