The Easiest Almost Free Way To Make Yourself Unforgettable November 25, 2014 (0 comments)
Merrick, NY—In this era of super-cluttered marketing bombardment, how do you make a memorable, lasting, and positive impression on your clients?
The answer is right there on your desk: it takes one pen, one note card, five minutes, and a first-class stamp.
According to renowned blogger and marketing expert Drew McLellan in a post on WordOfMouth.org, an old-fashioned hand-written thank-you note will set you apart in an instant. Most businesses—if they send a thank-you at all—will dash off an email or even a text, but the hand-written note has become an endangered species. As such, you will stand out merely by writing one. He offers the example of a web developer who made a kitschy note (below) from construction paper and a dinosaur sticker—but that note is a permanent display on McLellan’s desk simply because the vendor took the time to create it, write something, and send it. He feels, in a word, special.
Luxury jewelers are more likely than average to follow up a sale with a hand-written note, but if you’ve let that tradition lapse or morph into an electronic thank-you, now is the time to bring it back in its original form. A handwritten note says the customer matters enough to you to take the time to write it. A handwritten note says you not only still remember what good manners are, but you have them. And a handwritten note is guaranteed to make the customer feel special and remember his or her interaction with you fondly.
Every kind of marketing—digital or paid—has its place. But it’s doubtful there’s anything else out there as powerful as a simple, handwritten note to make each customer feel like they are your most important customer. And all that comes just for the cost of a stamp, a note card, and a few minutes of your time.
