According to a report by Retail Insight Network, 84% of US adults say they intend to celebrate the occasion, with average spending estimated at $259.04 per person, roughly $5 more than in 2024.
Consumer spending is expected to be concentrated in both traditional and experiential categories. Jewelry tops the list at an estimated $6.8 billion, followed by special outings such as meals or day trips at $6.3 billion. Other leading categories include gift cards ($3.5 billion), flowers ($3.2 billion), and greeting cards ($1.1 billion), the report noted.
According to the data, most purchases are intended for mothers or stepmothers (57%), with others shopping for wives (23%) and daughters (12%).
The report highlighted that nearly half (48%) of respondents prioritize unique or different gifts, while 42% seek presents that create lasting memories. The trend toward experiential gifts has continued since the pandemic, with 36% of men indicating they plan to give experience-based gifts, compared to 29% in 2019.
Online platforms remain the leading shopping channel, used by 36% of respondents. Department stores follow at 32%, with 29% shopping at specialty retailers and 25% turning to small or local businesses.
The findings are based on a survey of nearly 8,000 US adults conducted in early April 2025. The results have a margin of error of ±1.1 percentage points.
