AGS Jeweler’s Home, A Former Bank, Goes Viral Online

Spring City, PA—Jeweler Cathy Calhoun, owner of Calhoun Jewelers in Royersford, PA, and former president of the American Gem Society, knows a thing or two about renovating banks. Her store is housed in a former bank building and her home (left) also is in another former bank--that one on the National Register of Historic Places. At home, she even turned the bank’s old basement vault into a sauna because of its lack of ventilation, while the upstairs safe deposit vault--now a bar--still held treasures left by former patrons of the bank when she bought the building. As she drilled the boxes open, she found coins, deeds, and, fittingly, lots of jewelry.

Her bank house was featured in 2007 on HGTV’s If Walls Could Talk, but since then social media has sent Calhoun’s story viral. Click here to watch.
