How To Get Your Jewelry Photos Noticed On Instagram
February 08, 2019 (0 comments)
If you’ve spent any amount of time scrolling through your Instagram feed - especially while browsing hashtags like #jewelrylovers, #jewelryoftheday or #finejewelry - you know first-hand that Instagram is crowded with literally millions of jewelry photos. How is any one jewelry brand supposed to distinguish itself in such a vast sea of sparkle?
Of course, using relevant hashtags is one way to get noticed, but you’ll also want to make sure your photographs are interesting and memorable. Another JewelryEcomm author recently
wrote an article with ideas for high-converting Instagram content ideas, like reposting your customers’ photos, showcasing multiple pieces in each photo, and showing your creative process.
Of course, those are all good ideas, but they’re kind of worthless if your target customers aren’t noticing your photos. For that reason, in this post, we’ll be focusing more on photo quality rather than content.
First, if you’re not sure where to start in terms of creative and eye-catching photography, you can browse the hashtags above and observe your own reactions to the photos that you see.
Which photos make you pause? And what do you find interesting about those photos?
Which ones do you skip or ignore? And why are you scrolling past those photos?
Which photos are so interesting that you take a moment to browse the user’s entire feed? And why are those photos so intriguing to you?
Open a notebook and write down your answers to these questions, especially noting the things you like about other user’s photos. Then brainstorm some ways that you can incorporate those qualities into your own jewelry photos. Below, we’ll share some tips with examples.
1. Make sure your photos are clear, well lit, and have a pleasing perspective
Not only is
this photo shared by @pointnopointstudio clear, eye-catching, well-lit, and symmetrical when viewed full size, but it also stands out in a feed of photos. It catches our attention because it’s uncluttered, and the diamonds sparkle in the light. In addition, the model’s hand is clean and well groomed. Nothing distracts the eye from the jewelry, and we’re naturally drawn to all the different styles displayed on the hand.
2. Don’t be afraid to showcase your brand’s personality
In
this photo posted by @EvaNogaJewelry, the brand’s personality is on full display. Designer Eva Noga brings flora and fauna into all of her designs, and her passion is apparent in this photograph. The jewelry may not be front and center, but we can learn a lot about the designer’s brand just by taking in all the details of this photograph. Someone scrolling past this photo in a feed may feel curious about it. The plants and bugs may not appeal to everyone, but they’ll appeal to the right customers - and those are the only customers you should care about.
3. Don’t neglect the power of color and shape.
How could you possibly skip past
this photo from @auvere_true_gold? The unique composition, bright colors, pretty flower petals, and shiny 22K gold are impossible to ignore. Not only is this photo pleasing to the eye, but it’s also intriguing. We have to look twice to know, “Are those earrings?” Think outside the box and play with shape and color, especially as it relates to your brand and the image you’d like to communicate.
Now that you know how to stand out in a crowded sea of Instagram photos, how will you be pushing the boundaries of your social media photography to get noticed?
