2-1.jpg As we come upon the last month of 2018, and head into the 2019, we look forward to what the digital landscape will look like in the next year. In the ever-changing and dynamic world of digital marketing, a few trends seem to keep popping up! Here are the top five trends to watch for:

1) Internet use may likely overtake TV.

More and more people get their favorite shows from Youtube than before, and this trend will continue to increase. We predict an increase of 3.1 hours online, with 3.3 hours on Youtube and Youtube-type platforms. What does this mean for your brand? Get on Youtube and Vimeo stat. Put the focus on creating quality video content and keep your market engaged by providing content which they are likely to want to watch. Companies will also adjust their budgets with less ad dollars spent on TV ads and more ad spend on social media and online video streaming services.

2) The Alexa phenomenon.

Smart speakers such as Google Home, Apple HomePod, And Amazon’s Alexa have made a significant impact on the tech market. A whopping 70% of smart speaker owners say they wouldn’t want to go back to a life without them. We expect to see an uptick in ads to these devices with a monetization of the content. Companies like Amazon, Apple and Google might launch their own ad platforms. Think "Adwords" but for your Google Home as well.

3) Internet Will Catch Up To Television.

Research shows that internet will catch up to television in 2019, in terms of hours watched. According to the study, people will spend 2.6 hours a day online and 2.7 hours a day watching T.V. in 2019. 45 minutes of an average person’s internet time will be spent watching mobile video. Because of this, we predict companies will spend less money on television ads and more money on online video ads, web ads and social media.

4) Live Video Will Continue To Expand.

Facebook, Instagram and Youtube have had enormous success with their live video services. More than 85% of internet users are watching more live video than the year before. This will continue to rise with the increase of quality of modern streaming services. 70% of live viewers say they are much more likely to buy a concert ticket or attend an event if they’ve seen live streams of similar concerts and events online. What’s more, 50% of live audiences would pay to see a favorite performer, team or athlete on a live stream.

5) Traditional Videos And Video Ads Will Continue To Increase.

Traditional video will continue to increase. Video will soon account for a whopping 85% of total internet traffic. What’s more, 54% of internet users currently watch video on a social media platform each month and that number is expected to grow exponentially. 65% of ad impressions on Instagram came from video content, and we are expecting that number to grow. In summary, consider adding video to your 2019 social media strategy. We recommend running video ads on YouTube and Instagram, partnering with an influencer for paid product placement or endorsement and creating video content in-house. Your brand's best bet in 2019 is to focus more on online video streaming with distribution of content through a robust social media push.
