London, United Kingdom—Among the many hilarious sketches that made the British comedy troupe Monty Python famous, some of their best vignettes feature a retail scenario. Indeed, they’re even educational in a backwards, don’t-do-this way: for example, the famous “Dead Parrot” sketch is a classic example of customer service gone bad. It’s no coincidence that renowned comic actor John Cleese stars as the hapless customer. In his post-Python life, Cleese went on to star in many films and also as a bumbling innkeeper in the British comedy series Fawlty Towers.

But Cleese has a strong background in education, and is both a former Lord Rector at St. Andrew’s University in Scotland and a visiting professor at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. He successfully parlayed his comic appeal into a thriving business as a highly sought-after and successful sales trainer and business consultant.
