Tampa, FL--Historically and culturally, retail salespeople have been trained and required to "make sales." Success was measured by "closes."  As a result of training to use manipulative closing techniques, something bad happened: research shows consumers view jewelry salespeople with the same esteem as used car salesman .

The era of e-commerce has changed retail. This means that we must change too. To succeed today we must move beyond just "making" sales to "creating" sales.

There are four things that you need to do in order to create sales:

1. Spend at least one hour each day self-marketing yourself. Use email, texts, calls and social media. It's so easy to maintain contact with your clients. You MUST do this. MUST!

2. Build Your Customer Community. Obviously, the more people you have in your customer community, the more opportunities you can create. Data is king!

3. Learn to use social media. The eyes of your customers have moved from traditional media to their mobile device. Stop resisting the move and learn how to use social media to your benefit.

4. Be Innovative. You must create attractive ideas to peak the clients interest. For example, in January I would order a box of amethyst (February birthstone) on a short-term memo. When the box arrived, I would call all my my clients who had February birthdays. The merchandise sold before I could put it in the showcase. Innovate!
