How To Build Blog TrafficDecember 23, 2015 (1 comment)
|Miami, FL—My last article was all about engaging a younger demographic. I have received quite a few positive responses, so I have decided to dig a little deeper. For a re-cap on that article… here are 3 ways that can help you connect with a younger demographic:
- Craft A Robust Online Presence.
- Create A Sense Of Community.
- Respect Their Online Space.
Questions: If we have all this in place, then how do we drive them to your blog? How do people get to our blogs in the first place? It helps to understand how people actually learn about your blog and make their way over to visit them. Knowing this will help us understand how to use technology to increase our visibility. So, how do they find us?
1. You’re on someone else’s website: Someone’s friend or co-worker, or a stranger knows about your site and is linking it on their website. If you’re just starting out and have lots of friends… this is a great starting point and where most of your initial traffic is going to come from. My husband loves Facebook to the point where he will almost befriend anyone! There’s another name for that! He’s friended and liked the whole jewelry industry. He has “Facebooked” his way into the Social Media world. But… it’s working and driving traffic to all of our sites.
2. Post a Comment on someone else’s website: If you leave a comment on another blog, that person and her readers will see your comment and link. If they like what you have to say, they will follow you to your page.
3. Google or Search Engines: Search Engines will “spider” the World Wide Web looking for sites and indexing them. Depending on your keywords or tags they will find you and keep your site in their index under those tags. Then those tags will spider out into other similar tags and so on and so on… like a “web”. The longer your site has been around and the more other sites link to it, the higher your site will be placed in the search engine results. This will enable more people to be able to find you. This is the beauty of the Preferred Jewelers program. Preferred retailers are not only individually pushed or optimized but because of the network and being linked to the Preferred website, they are pushed and promoted through the whole network.
5. Content is everything! The more entertaining the content, the more hits on your page. Blogging can become mundane. It must be fun and interesting and maybe even a little unexpected and edgy to keep them coming back for more. The catchier and funnier your content is the better.
6. News Feeds: News feeds such as; Bloglines, My Yahoo, Google Plus, Feedspot and others, promote popular and interesting feeds. You can make it easier for your readers and make it easier for new readers to find you by adding your site to their favorite News Feeds. This will greatly increase your chances of becoming one of the most popular feeds.
7. Someone emailed your URL to someone else: You can help this along by adding a “Share” or “Send to a Friend” tab on your blog.
8. Press: Getting your story picked up in print media is priceless. This is exactly what we do for newly selected Preferred Retailers. A press release for your store or business can bring tons of people to your site, blog or store. Want Press? It’s important to find out what journalists are covering. Find out which ones are covering your space or expertise, and then send polite emails of introduction offering to be a resource for any article they have interest in writing, that is in your field. Topics on Jewelry, blogging, millennials, the online market place or whatever your point of interest might be. Getting this kind of exposure will in turn direct you to other blogs and sites that you will “like” and comment on and in turn direct you to more blogs and sites and so on and so on. Time well invested.
These are the main categories I have been looking at and researching for our blog that is soon to be launched. The “Jewelry Chatter Box” by Preferred Jewelers International™ will be informative, cutting edge, colorful and most importantly, fun!
I know there is so much more to learn. I will definitely continue delving into this! Have a great Holiday Season and a Healthy and Happy New Year! And thanks for reading!
Andie Weinman, president and CEO of Preferred Jewelers International / Continental Buying Group Inc., was born with the “Jewelry Gene” working in the jewelry industry since she was only ten years old. Her first job was as a cashier in the opening of a catalog showroom doing a fantastic job even at that tender age. Andie holds a B.A. in musical theatre and a B.S. in marine biology from The University of Tampa. When she realized that seawater and marine biology were not good on her hair and she wasn’t quite good enough to make it on Broadway, the jewelry business beckoned. Andie has picked diamonds, sorted color stones, shot waxes and performed a multitude of jobs in the manufacturing of jewelry. Her negotiating experience and prowess has given her the reputation as being tough but fair in her dealings with vendors. In 2012 the Indian Diamond and Color Association awarded Andie the Prestigious Doyenne Award of the Year.
