New York, NY—The holidays are a great time to host a giveaway to engage your audience on social media, give back to your loyal customers, and attract new customers with an appealing incentive. A social media giveaway can be a relatively easy and cost-effective way to grow your audience and build brand trust and customer loyalty.

The Platinum Guild International offers these steps for hosting a giveaway on Instagram:

What Should You Give Away? Offer a prize that is relevant to your store and incentivizes entries. Promote a platinum piece to show the quality your store. A stackable platinum band is a great choice for the upcoming proposal season, because it could be worn as a wedding or anniversary band as well as a fashion band, thus allowing the targeting of a wider audience.

Visual Assets. Make sure you have multiple visual assets of the prize to support the giveaway. A mix of on-model shots and close-up product images, as well as both photo and video, is ideal to give a full picture of the product.

Schedule. Be intentional about your giveaway schedule by creating a content calendar in advance. It's recommended to start a giveaway with an "anchor" in-feed post. This should utilize an eye-catching image paired with copy that introduces the rules and requirements for entry. Be sure to clearly state here when the winner will be announced and adhere to this timeline. Share this post on your story, and post more images on stories later in the giveaway directing back to the anchor post. Before the giveaway ends, post on stories and/or in-feed alerting your audience of their last chance to enter.

Promote. Consider promoting your anchor post with paid media. Keep in mind this is the most competitive time of year for paid social promotion. It's recommended to spend at least $200 to make the boost worthwhile.

Conditions. Include a statement releasing Instagram from any responsibility. For example: Open to U.S. residents only. Giveaway will be closed (time and end date). Winner will be drawn by (date) and notified via Direct Message. Per Instagram rules, this promotion is in no way sponsored, administered, or associated with Instagram. By entering, entrants confirm that they are 18+ years of age, release Instagram of responsibility, and agree to Instagram’s terms of use.

Consider: Prizes that retail above $600 require the winner to provide the giveaway host with a completed W9 and signed affidavit prior to accepting the prize.
