Merrick, NY—As a jeweler, you’ve probably heard every variation on “I can’t afford it.” And you probably know that usually that isn’t strictly true. After all, haven’t we all bought things we can’t afford when we really wanted to?

Internet marketing consultant and author Naomi Dunford of IttyBiz (left) takes a look inside your customer’s head to see just what’s up when you hear your customer say they have no money. While Dunford doesn’t specialize in the jewelry industry, her insights work for anyone selling a product that has a price.

“No money’ isn’t about price. It’s about value,” writes Dunford. And her advice? “People will give you ALL SORTS of reasons why they’re not buying. Be nice to them, but try not to pay too much attention to what the reasons are, because odds are, they’re not the real reasons.”

Here are some real reasons for your consideration the next time you hear that phrase. Maybe one of them will help you overcome ‘no money’ as an objection and make the sale!
