Aether Diamonds Makes Time Magazine’s ‘Best Inventions’ List December 05, 2022 (0 comments)
New York, NY--Aether Diamonds’ proprietary process of creating diamonds by capturing carbon in the air has earned it a place on Time magazine’s “Best Inventions of 2022.”
“Companies selling lab-grown diamonds often appeal to consumers’ sense of ethics and sustainability by citing the human-rights and environmental implications of traditional diamond mining. Aether Diamonds is taking things a step further: its diamonds are made from carbon sucked from the atmosphere,” Time magazine wrote about the product.
The magazine notes that while still less expensive than mined diamonds the carbon dioxide air-capture technology produces diamonds that are more expensive than other lab-grown diamonds. However, Ryan Shearman, Aether Diamonds CEO, says the process is more sustainable than other lab-grown diamonds.
“Ultimately, every atom of carbon that lands in that diamond was previously warming the planet,” Shearman told the magazine. In addition, 10% of revenue is invested into the direct-air capture industry and other frontier climate projects and technologies.
The magazine notes that it takes about eight to 12 weeks of chemical transformation, cutting and polishing to create an Aether diamond.
