AGTA Webinar About New Burmese Sanctions Postponed Until May 3 April 26, 2021 (0 comments)
Dallas, TX—With new human rights abuses being perpetrated by the military government in Burma (Myanmar), the U.S. government has recently placed sanctions on certain military leaders and entities whose operations provide resources to the military government in Burma. The sanctions are broad and impact a significant portion of gem materials that originate in Burma and it is essential that members of the gem and jewelry industry understand their responsibilities as traders during this period of sanctions. AGTA's previously announced webinar titled “The U.S. Sanctions Against Burmese Entities, What Are My Responsibilities?" has been rescheduled to May 3 due to scheduling conflicts for the U.S. Department of State.
The webinar will be presented bySara Yood, Deputy General Counsel, JVC, and a representative of the U.S. Department of State Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), and be moderated by Douglas Hucker, CEO of AGTA.
Yood will outline our responsibilities as traders to be in compliance with those sanctions and the OFAC will outline the rationale behind the sanctions, what entities are included, and will provide more specific details regarding compliance.
The webinar will be approximately one hour and will include time for questions. The new date and time is Monday, May 3, at 11:00 a.m. EDT/8:00 a.m. PDT. It will be hosted via Zoom. Participants who have already registered will automatically be transferred to the new date.
