Jamestown, NY—What is it with cars crashing into jewelry stores?

The latest jeweler to have a car come crashing through her front door is Gaylene Lindell, owner of Gaylene’s Jewelry in Jamestown, NY, along the state’s southern tier. Her store was open at the time of the August 7 accident, and a customer had left minutes earlier, but thankfully nobody was in the front part of the store and nobody was hurt when the car hit, she told The Post Journalher local newspaper. The driver of the vehicle was unhurt as well. Image: Post-Journal

From the paper:

“I don’t know what happened, but the vehicle and the driver came through the front door,” she said. “The store was open and fortunately a customer had just left three minutes prior. I was back in my office. Thankfully, the driver was OK. I’m very grateful no one was hurt.”

While no people were injured, the store sustained extensive damage and had to be closed for five days for repairs. But the store’s alarm system was not damaged and all jewelry was safely stored in that period, Lindell said.

She reopened August 12.

Gaylene’s is the fourth jewelry store to be hit by a car this year. The other three were Prairie Jewelers in Sun Prairie, WILas Savell in Memphis, TN; and Joyelles Jewelers in Delmar, NY.
