Are You Protected From “Slip and Fall” Lawsuits? March 05, 2014 (0 comments)
Neenah, WI—With this winter going down as the snowiest in recent memory, the possibility of having a passerby fall on your property—and sue you because of it—goes up. But as tired as everyone is of snow and ice, winter is not over yet in many parts of the country. And despite jewelers’ everyday concerns about safety and security, snow can pose as much of a risk to your business’s health as crime.
Jewelers’ Mutual Insurance Co. offers a series of tips to help ensure that at least your risk of having a customer slip and fall is minimized. Here is a reminder of some key tips to keep slips at bay:
- Use entry mats for all indoor/outdoor entrances. Make sure they lie flat so nobody trips over them, and that they are thin enough not to block the door.
- Monitor floors constantly for wet or slippery spots.
- Put a sign near wet or slippery spots on the floor to call extra attention to them.
- Offer plastic bags or a bin to hold customers’ wet umbrellas to keep them from dripping on the floor.
- Keep exterior walkways and parking lots salted and sanded during the winter months, and shovel immediately after any snowfall.
