The shipment originated in Taiwan and was headed to a residential address in Houston when officers intercepted it for inspection. The report stated that the watches were identified as counterfeit Rolex Just Date models bearing protected trademarks.
CBP's Centers of Excellence and Expertise reviewed the shipment and determined the items to be inauthentic. Had the watches been genuine, their combined manufacturer's suggested retail price would have totaled about $2.57 million, the report noted.
"Our CBP officers diligently work to protect honest and hardworking legitimate businesses by targeting and intercepting these fraudulent items," said LaFonda D. Sutton-Burke, director of field operations for the Chicago Field Office, as cited in the report.
The report stated that counterfeit goods remain a significant source of transnational crime revenue and can include fashion, luxury products, electronics, medications, toys, and automotive parts sold through online channels.
In fiscal year 2025, CBP seized nearly 79 million counterfeit items nationwide, with a combined retail value of more than $7.3 billion if genuine, according to the report.
