Jewelry Figures in Times Square and Rose Parade Celebrations

New York, NY—Jewelry designer Lisa Nik was spotted coast to coast on TV, as worn by Jenny McCarthy, left, who counted down the last 10 seconds of 2012 as the famed ball dropped over Times Square on New Year’s Eve. McCarthy, who was one of the co-hosts of New Year’s Rockin Eve, wore the designer’s cocktail rings and layers of her “Sparkle” diamond chains with twisted wire links.

Then on New Year’s Day, one lucky couple won the Farmer’s Insurance competition for a dream wedding to take place on the company’s Love Float in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, CA. The winning couple, Gerald Sapienza and Nicole Angelillo of Chesapeake, VA, were high school classmates who, unbeknownst to each other, were connected by an online dating site 10 years later. As winners of the competition, they received the Rose Bowl trip, her dress, his tuxedo, and their wedding rings free of charge—but in a bit of a disappointment to the companies who provided them, there was not one mention on TV or online of the jeweler, the dressmaker, the tuxedo firm, or the agency that provided the trip to Pasadena and necessary accountrements. Lesson to jewelers who are part of such a big national moment: bargain for a mention before handing over the goods!

Gerald Sapienza and Nicole Angelillo of Chesapeake, VA, were married on a float during the Tournament of Roses Parade Tuesday in Pasadena, CA. Although the couple won their wedding attire and rings and the trip as part of the contest, none of the supplying firms were credited.

Still, here was an interesting blog entry: it seems Angelillo didn’t want to wait for a diamond, or pressure Sapienza into buying her a one, so she bought one for herself with the proviso that he could replace it anytime he wanted. Hey, a sale’s a sale…

O.C. Tanner Kicks Off Season Three Of Downton Abbey With Fundraiser Party

Salt Lake City, UT—Addicted to Downton Abbey? You’re not alone. The award-winning runaway English TV drama has inspired both fashion trends and an interest in WWI era history. As the program prepares to debut its third season on PBS here in the United States, jeweler OC Tanner is partnering with Salt Lake City’s KUED to host a fundraiser benefiting the PBS station, which carries the series. Guests will enjoy an English-themed dinner and a sneak preview of the Season Three premiere. Black tie or period dress is encouraged for the event, slated for January 5 at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts. The jeweler is underwriting both the gala premiere and the Downton Abbey third season on KUED.

This invitation for the gala is what comes up on the homepage of KUED-TV's website.

It’s certainly been a conversation starter among both Downton Abbey and OC Tanner fans, as evidenced by this post on its Facebook page:
