The panelists during this presentation offered a dichotomy of views on working with their websites. Michael Zibman of Windsor Jewelers was heavily involved in the design process and still is actively involved in the website daily activities. His store had taken more of a “do it yourself” approach to the web, including using e-commerce offering a number of inventory items for sale online.

Erik Halfacre of Traditional Jewelers used a solid approach as well, outsourcing much of his website design, maintenance and building to an outside source and not utilizing e-commerce.

Each approach worked well for the respective jeweler involved. Moderator Michael Hauben delved into the strategies behind each approach, looking at technologies as well as marketing strategies. The audience was particularly interested in social networking and its various options and possible impact on a retail jewelry store’s marketing and sales.
