Originally hosted by Bill Nusser of Hands Jewelers and Catherine Champion of Catherine's Boutique, the show aired for nearly a decade before ending in the mid-2010s.
According to a report by CBJ, Bill's son, Charlie Nusser, now the general manager of Hands Jewelers, recalls its unexpected popularity. "My mother and I were always convinced that no one listened to it, but it actually became one of the station’s most popular shows," he said in the report.
The podcast's new hosts are Charlie Nusser and Anna Moyers Stone, former vice president at MidWestOne Bank. The duo — both lifelong Iowa City residents — previously collaborated as MCs for community events, developing a strong rapport. "We wouldn’t prepare that much. We would just kind of fly," Nusser added in the report.
The revived Downtown Dish aims to feature local entrepreneurs, events, and stories from downtown Iowa City. "Since we’re in this community already, these guests are our friends and neighbors," Stone added, as per the report.
Per the report, the hosts also plan to have occasional cameos from Bill Nusser.
The first episode will be on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Google Play in June.
